What is the deal with the grass fed beef from Mark Bernal?  Do you have to buy the whole cow?  How does it end up getting processed?

Paul's chickens are great! They are odorless compared to the "organic" chickens you would buy from Trader Joe's, WholeFood or Costco. After I tasted Paul's chickens, I was horrified of the regular store organic chickens. There's no comparison! He harvests it the day before he comes to market. They are so low in fat that my first one I bought from Paul caught on fire in the grill because it had virtually no fat. Chicken tastes a lot more muscular as well, not soft and mushy.

More comments about chickens.  Paul from Hollister sells organic, tractor raised chickens & eggs at the Saratoga Farmers Market on Saturday & the Mountain View market on Sunday.

I got schooled today. I went to Whole Hog Butchery at The Fatted Calf in Napa. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in dealing with a whole hog , learning about butchery techniques, or just learning about where the various cuts of meat come from. They sent us home with sausages we made. I bought 1/6 hog in the past in this group. With my new knowledge I feel more comfortable about buying more meat and doing the butchering myself.

Surfside chickens sells meat chickens and eggs CSA style - I get their eggs from the Live Earth Farm CSA.

They are also selling at Sunnyvale Farmer's Market - but you have to get there 1st thing to get eggs.

I don't know of a local (south bay) egg csa.  There are a few good vendors at the various farmers markets.  I also like  www.realfoodbayarea.com   I like them for raw milk and eggs.

Just got the monthly e-mail from Mel at Sierra Farms reminding of the upcoming February bay area lamb delivery.  See prior comments for contact info if you are interested.

Hi,
Yes I do have some goats available. a couple of August kids as well as some older goats. I also will have a veal calf available soon ( actually, available now, I just have to wait for the processor to have time to do the cut & wrap).
