Brenda, I purchased from Miller Ranch up in Oakdale--Lisa Batzell-Miller posts on here occasionally on its availability, which is how I hooked up with her. She & the butcher were easy to deal with. Although she offered the possibility of an Oakland drop-off, I actually had a family member pick it up from the Sunnyvale drop off. I love the meat--it's leaner, as it's grass fed. Nice distinctive, earthy flavor. It's not certified organic, which is why it's a bit more affordable, but states it uses organic practices and is a small family farm (her husband was actually the drop-off guy!). We may actually try to go visit the ranch in May. After the harvest fee & butchering, it worked out to be about $4.75/lb. I ended up with 63 lbs of meat, 1/2 of which was ground beef (which included grinding the stew meat, since I didn't want that). I also got a tongue. You can also request the beef bones.
Thanks for the heads up Brenda--I will pass this time since I actually ended up purchasing an entire quarter of a cow last month. If you end up with no-shows, though, feel free to call me on my cell phone as I'll be happy to help purchase some of the excess.
Thanks Brenda - sounds great. I'd be in for 2 shares at 30 lbs. I don't think I could fit anymore in my freezer...unfortunately. I have some other friends that I can ask when we get to that point. I'm so sorry that you had problems last time. I know you usually do pick-ups on Fridays but if you could so a Saturday or Sunday, I would probably be able to help you out. Also, would you like me to start the ball rolling with Prather? I'd love to better understand the process to help the Richmond group out.
Hi Bing, were you the one that did the Prather ranch share awhile back? I am interested if you might do another one soon! The meat was sooo delicious and I just cant find the same quality anywhere else. Keep me posted. Thanks
