Show me one other place in the country that I can buy beef fed with flax that is high in Omega 3 like fish and I will share that information too with others that have heart concerns. I spend plenty of time on the west coast and buy plenty of local organic when there.
awesome, no worries julia. i work part-time so i have more time than most folks to deal with stuff like this. plus, i like doing it! ;) i'm an event planner and fundraiser so i have lots of experience doing follow-up with numerous parties. what's the best way to reach you? phone? does your phone take texts? (I know that responding to texts can be less burdensome than responding to phone calls). Let me know and I'll keep you in the loop. I'll call Rose myself, don't worry, and let her know she can work with me from here on out.
julia, i'm willing to coordinate this buy if you're not able. will try to call you tomorrow. i have a few people i know who are not on this site but are willing to get the meat through me so i may end up buying 1/4 or even 1/2 pig. sounds like you're in for 1/8 and sallie might also be in for an 1/8. let me know if this is okay with you for me to coordinate from here on out.
from lynn's postings on yours and my pages, she's willing to help divide it as long as we go to her spot on delivery day to pick up the meat. double-check with her on that since the dates you are talking about are different than hers. I'm down with waiting a couple more weeks to get my meat if that means lynn can help us divvy it up (i live in an apt. with a tiny kitchen and would have a hard time cutting up that big a chunk of pork here!).
thanks for your message. i may have 1 other buyer interested in an 1/8 pig if one of the other folks backs out (looks like leeshawn is no longer in, unless you've heard otherwise?). also, i thought i saw on the godfrey page that they said we didn't need to have a deposit b/c they knew lynn and were okay with just getting the money the week of the delivery? either way, i'll do whatever we need to do to get the meat.
i'm definitely down for 1/8 pig. i'll let you know by wed whether i have another 1/8 buyer. just let me know what i need to do next.
I'm glad things seem to be pulling together. Coule of things I need to get clear on though.
I don't know if you have the dates incorrect or Rose is talking about a different slaughter date than the date for my pig. But I know that my delivery is scheduled for some day between Jan 1 and Jan. 5, because I'm leaving the country for almost a month on the 6th. It can't be at the end of Jan., because I won't be here. So double check that with her.
Second, I'm hosting the pick up site, not accepting delivery. It may be a matter of semantics, but one implies that I'm taking your stuff and storing it until you come to get it and that's just not the case. I'm providing the location and that's it. If you don't think you'll be able to come right away, you may drop off an ice chest beforehand and we can put your stuff in that. But it won't last forever and I don't have the freezer space for others. I'm hosting because I have a large driveway with plenty of parking space for everyone to gather. Not always easy to say in the city!
If your pig is at a later date than my delivery, your group will need to find another meeting place becuase I won't be involved or even around. So that date affects this as well.
Leeshawn has dropped out. She seemed to think it wasn't pulling together fast enough. I think Rona is going to be helpful and I'm glad she's onboard. I've met Sallie and she should be in touch with you soon. I'll see if I can ping her.
Are things moving along on your pig? Quite a few people have replied to the post and I'm sure there are enough to do at least a half. So far, it's been you, Rona, Leeshawn, and Sallie that have said they are interested. Contact me if things don't get going by Sunday.
I'll tell you a few details, just so you know now. I'm offering the pick up location for everyone. You'll need to come pretty soon after delivery because I have no space to store for others. Godfrey Family Farms will deliver to us, which is great. Normally, you have to go to the ranch to pick up. You'll need to make some kind of deposit in advance, and your check for the remainder will need to be at the pick up when everything is delivered. Otherwise, you communicate directly with Rose of Godfrey Farms. Oh, I'm offering to give you all a hand with dividing up your pig. They'll pack the cuts in halves, but won't divide more than that. It's divided giving everyone an equal share of weight for their share. We also try to divide it giving all the same amount of each cut, but that can be a bit more challenging! So a bit of horse trading sometimes has to go on. That's another reason why it's good to be there when everything is dropped off. If you're not there when the work is done, you get what you get.
That's all I can think of right now. If you have questions for Godfrey Farms (and you do need to contact her directly just to let her know you want to be part of a buy), look to the discussion they started and you can contact them directly from there.
