Do you remember when you posted about Godfrey and someone asked you all those questions about refrigeration and beaks?
She said that she got to BAMCSA because someone (not you?) had posted that you were having a chicken sale on the WPFF list, which apparently stands for Weston Price Food Foundation or something. Most of the people who signed up for the Godfrey chicken and didn't show up were WPFF people. Call me if you're curious for more details.
Everything is gone. Luckily, someone who came late (she forgot, but remembered on her own) called her friends and bought eight. I drove my share to store at work and then stored the extra 3 chickens in my fridge and left grouchy messages on the stragglers pages. Two of them came to pick up the remaining chickens. (One of whom kinda complained that I had left them to thaw and now she couldn't back in the freezer?!) Godfrey is offering great prices (although the chickens were a bit large to roast well), but if you decide to do this again, I would recommend being REALLY CLEAR with the chicken obsessed mailing list people. (All of the forgotten chickens were mailing list chickens.) Oh, and get cell phone numbers.
Hey Melanyann! You've got 30! If we get stragglers, I'll just tack them on to my MSF order.
You might want to come to meat distribution just to see how it goes. On the other hand, it is a bunch of hours hanging out with strangers in a garage, which could get old quickly! If possible, could you drop by around 9pm to pick up your money?
I'm ordering two from Garvey, and six from Marin Sun (I had already committed to Dave, and I think a taste comparison would be a good idea anyway). I don't think we should worry about the 30max, as I can always add chickens to my Marin Sun order if it comes to that.
We should collect separate checks/cash for the beef and the chicken. It gets really crazy on pickup day and we should minimize the chances that money gets lost along the way.
My plan is for someone to be at my house at 3pm to receive and organize meat. (Don't want it delivered at 8am and sit out until 9pm!) I've lined up a bunch of volunteer meatpackers (Eileen, Britta, Gretchen, Joanne). Britta is also contributing 3 large coolers.
The best and way, way simplest thing to do is to pay for the whole thing yourself and collect money when people come to pick up their chickens. (Now you know why I am so obsessed with people telling me they got the message and are coming).
I will update the discussion with the information. Umm, are they ok with waiting till Friday before placing an order? (And also the possibility that we might not make it this time?)
